Pastel Nail Polish Trends 2014: L’Óreal Les Blancs Collection
Pastel Nail Polish is the new spring trend everyone is talking about, a great alternative to nude nail polishes that were the rage last year. Fresh, lovely shades of lavender, peach, mint, golden beige and pretty pink add a romantic chic finish to any look or outfit.
Although the Fashion Weeks offered a veritable feast of easy and cool nail art trends, I have to say that this year, something made me abandon the quirky designs and rediscover the femininity of pastels and bright, gorgeous hues.
There were plenty of nail art trends showcased on the runways, from the classical nude look, to the French manicures, the glitter nail polishes and the jewel toned shades, that rocked the red carpet, as well.
Nudes, off whites and pastel nail polishes ruled the scene, with designers including Christopher Kane, Emilia Wickstead, Tom Ford, Erdem, Giles, Sophia Webster and many many others choosing these spring colors to set the mood.
Whether or not the sun is shining, the pastel nail polish look is a must-try. L’Óreal Paris followed the trend by launching the new Les Blancs Collection, featuring 7 sophisticated off-white shades, that add a pop of color to your look.
L’Óreal Paris Les Blancs Collection
Inspired by macaroons, smoothies and Easter eggs, the soft, sweet and creamy colours available in the Les Blancs collection surprise with their nice consistency and adorable shades.
The mint, pistachio, peach, lavender, lemon, pink or baby blue shades available were created with an unique formula that delivers intense color, with lots of pigment and luxurious shine. They are not like the very chalky white pastels that other brands launched and I attribute that to the built-in top coat LiquiGel Technology, that offers an opaque finish, easy application, even coverage and lasting glossy shine.
The Les Blancs Nail Polish collection consists of the following pastel shades:
- 850 Lemon Meringue – lemon yellow
- 852 Pistachio Drage – pistachio
- 853 Menthe Glace – bluish mint
- 854 Golden Coquillage – nude with fine gold particles
- 856 Peach Neglige – soft peach
- 858 Ocean Porcelaine – baby blue
- 859 Gourmandise – baby pink
The patented brush technology gives extra precision and the formula prevents air bubbles. The flat brush holds the formula, so color is applied to the nails easily. The best part is that it also dries really fast, so I can go about my business.
How to wear pastel nail polish
One of the best ways to wear pastel nail polish is in a low-key, monotone manicure with a high-shine finish. Achieving this is super easy with the L’Óreal Les Blancs collection, as two coats provide an opaque and glossy finish.
All you have to do is get your hands on a bottle of your favorite shade of pastel nail polish and make sure your nails are in top condition. Moisturize and file regularly to maintain a classic, rounded nail shape and apply a protective base coat before starting any manicure. The top coat is optional, in my opinion, as the polishes featured in this collection really reflect light in a beautiful way.
You can also cue a two-tone pastel French manicure with inverse accent nails. This is probably my favorite way to wear pastel shades, as there is no way to get a wrong color combination. Plus, it’s a good excuse if you want to buy more than one and you find it difficult to pick a favorite.
I love these combos: Lemon Meringue & Pistachio Drage, Golden Coquillage & Menthe Glace, Gourmandise & Ocean Porcelaine, Peach Neglige works with just about anything.
If you prefer Nail Art, these shades will work beautifully to highlight any design you want to wear. I tried them for an Ombre Nail Art, as well as in a Marble Art nail design and they work flawlessly. My favorite is, by far, the way they look in a Half Moon manicure.
You can also incorporate these pastels into a classic French Mani. Because they are slightly more vibrant than the traditional pink that most of us use, you will achieve a fresh, brighter effect, that looks great no matter what you’re wearing.
You can also experiment with top coats. After applying the pastel nail polish as a base color, add a little detail with a top coat. Whether confetti, sequin or metallic, a top coat will add an extra dimension to your manicure in minutes.
If you don’t have time for a nail art design, do an accent nail. Try one of the combos I recommended or be adventurous and figure out what you love most.
A pastel nail manicure is a great option for formal occasions, work, a job interview or a day spent in the sun. The subtle yet zesty color makes fingers and nails appear longer, yet won’t overwhelm your look. They go with just about any outfit imaginable, so you must get on board with this trend.
