Facial oil is something that most women with mature and/or dry skin have used by now, so when I first heard that L’Oreal was launching the Nutri Gold Oil and Oil-Cream, I couldn’t help but feel excited that this hugely popular brand was getting on board with natural skin care alternatives and ingredients that have been used with great success since forever.
It’s really a way of educating young women everywhere about the benefits of introducing essential oils in their skin care routine, by debunking the misconception that deeply nourishing, moisturizing ingredients are not suitable for combination or oily skin types, make you break out and other folk stories like that.
I for one have sensitive combination skin and have been using Jojoba oil, Grape seed Oil & Argan oil for face moisturizing for quite some time now. Before that, I would choose the lightest of face moisturizers, so I remember when someone first suggested I should try facial oils, I was pretty skeptical.
All that changed when I realized that a light moisturizer like the one I was using would work to hydrate the T zone appropriately, but not so much the rest of my face. Especially not during cold winter months, when dry skin patches usually gave me a hard time.
Got to give it to L’Oreal for perfect timing, since now is the perfect time of the year for me to test out products like the new Nutri Gold Perfecting Oil & Oil-Cream they’ve just launched. Let me tell you my personal experience with the products and you can decide for yourself if they’ll be a fit for you.
L’Oreal Nutri Gold Facial Oil
This new product from L’Oreal is a blend of eight essential oils that hydrate and brighten the complexion. It’s recommended for every skin type and designed for every woman ranging from 20 to 50 years of age.
I love the fact that the formula absorbs quickly and it doesn’t feel greasy on the skin at all. It also contains a blend of highly effective nurturing ingredients for dry, lackluster skin, so even though you usually like to make your own essential oil recipe like I do, it’s great to know that someone figured out a great blend for everyday use.
And I have to say this facial oil offers impressive results, like a radiant, dewy skin, that I figured was lost in my High School years. I felt instantly in love with that healthy look and that smoothness that lingered on after the product sank in completely.
Here are the essential oils they used in the formula and their benefits:
- English Lavender (calming for dry skin)
- Rosemary Leaf (helps with acne & circulation)
- Geranium (astringent properties)
- Orange Peel (anti-aging & skin glow)
- Roman Chamomile (anti-inflammatory)
- Rose Flower (can help scars fade)
- Lavandin (an English & French Lavender blend)
- Marjoram Leaf (antioxidants & vitamins)
How to use
Nutri Gold Extraordinary Facial Oil can be used daily, alone or to complement your day and night regime, on a cleansed face and neck. The instructions recommend three drops in the morning, before applying your makeup and four or five drops in the evening, but two or three are just as moisturizing.
The incorporated dropper will prove most handy to apply the oil to your fingertips first, to warm it up and then massage onto the skin using your fingertips in circular motion. Allow the oil to absorb thoroughly before applying your day or night cream if needed.
Another trick I use is mixing a couple of drops of oil with some moisturizer together on the back of my hand and applying them together. Just remember to avoid contact with the eye area, something that you should always keep in mind when using essential oils as they can cause irritations to the delicate eye area.
What I liked about this product most of all is the scent is fantastic. I’m someone who doesn’t mind fragrance in beauty products, but if you are sensitive to them, you might want be aware that there is a semi-strong floral scent to it.
It’s like a feeling of calm and comfort envelops your senses for a moment of true relaxation and pampering.
After further inspection and reading the ingredients listed on the packaging, I’ve found that it contains perfume pretty high up the list, however in its defense, it never irritated my skin or gave me any breakouts.
If anything, the soothing and anti-inflammatory properties of this product really came through for me. After applying it for the first time, it instantly neutralized the redness from my blemishes and left my skin looking healthy, dewy and clear. Loved it!
L’Oreal Nutri Gold Extraordinary Oil-Cream
By the success I’ve had with the facial oil, you would think I befriended the Nutri Gold cream as well, wouldn’t you? Well…no such luck.
By reading the description of this intensive nourishing moisturizer, I thought that the experience would resemble the one I’ve had with the facial oil. According to L’Oreal, this extraordinary Oil-Cream “nourishes your skin and adds moisture and luster. Its light and dry formula allows it to be quickly absorbed by the skin”.
This moisturizer is infused with the essential oils of Lavender and Rosemary, it intensely nourishes with moisture, for skin that looks brighter, helping reduce the appearance of signs of fatigue.
Can’t argue there! Indeed, this is a thick cream and it reminds me a little of body butter. It’s suitable only for mature or very dry skin, and even so, probably only in the winter season.
It’s so moisturizing I couldn’t get it to sink into my skin even after the longest facial massage I’ve ever given to myself. Even then, my skin remained shiny, probably thanks to the sparkles/fine glitter particles that L’Oreal decided to include in the formula to camouflage wrinkles and fine lines. Too bad they didn’t think this cute trick would make my pores even more obvious.
Maybe this is harsh, but I feel strongly against using reflective particles in skin care products, when we can use makeup to emphasize and highlight only the areas we want to draw focus on. After all, less is more.
Unfortunately, for my skin, it is not a good match. However, I recommend this moisturizer to your mothers and grandmothers, to women with mature, dull and dry skin.
