CC Powder - the best color correction powders to set your CC Cream

color-correction-powder

Every woman wants a dewy, glowing skin tone and perfectly contoured and highlighted features at all times. Fortunately, there is a new generation of high definition makeup products out there, that cater to every skin concern. Followed closely by the CC Cream trend, the color correction powders available on the market, or CC Powders, as I like to call them, are nothing less than extraordinary.

Before you remember the chalky, cakey products that you associate the idea of powders with, let me start of by assuring you that there is hardly anything in common between the old powders available when we were in high school and the new technologies that they’re bringing out today. In fact, makeup in general is undergoing immense changes, with companies constantly improving products to keep in touch with the consumer’s demanding taste and the technological trends of today.

Among skin care products and makeup essentials like primers, concealers, highlighters and foundations, I’ve recently embraced a few color correction powders in my makeup kit that I’ve been dying to tell you about.

CC Powders or color correcting powders are a new generation of products designed to even out the skin tone, balance the skin tone and set the foundation for the entire day. Instead of covering imperfections like a foundation, these new face powders have a different purpose: they highlight your best features, make your makeup look flawless and give your skin a dewy, fresh glow.

You surely spotted them before in beauty boutiques and probably smirked at the funny looking, bizarre shades of these powders, but although they certainly look intimidating, color correcting powders are the secret weapon of make-up artists.

Available in shades of yellow, pink, mauve or peach, white and even green, these color correcting powders with micronized particles and neutralizing pigments are responsible for a matte, yet radiant finish. Because we’re talking about loose powders and the particles are so finely-milled, there is no chance that these will clump or highlight fine lines and wrinkles. In fact, they diffuse attention from any imperfections your skin might have, including irritation, hyper pigmentation, redness, scarring, discolorations and other severe skin issues.

Now that I have your attention, let me tell you more about how these products work and what’s the best way to use them in order to achieve the best results:

How CC Powders work

Color correction powders are excellent products for those who are facing skin issues or discolorations. Also, because the particles are so small, CC Powders are also perfect for setting BB or CC Creams, without leaving the impression of too much makeup.

First of all, the best way to use a color corrector is to determine what your skin issue may be. For instance, if you are suffering from redness or rosacea, then you probably are dealing with red and inflamed skin. If this is the case, then you do need to use a color corrector, which is sometimes called a neutralizer, in the color of green. The reason behind this is that green will perfectly work to neutralize any deep redness in your skin tone. This is also helpful if you have severely inflamed acne.

If you have sensitive skin and broken blood vessels that contribute to a pinkish undertone, you should use a yellow color correcting powder. The already famous Banane shade is a great choice for those with fair, pinkish skin tone, as well as those with medium to dark skin tones, that have trouble finding a suitable shade.

If you have dark skin, you’ll want to neutralize the gray or bluish undertone of your skin by using a salmon or peach colored powder.

If you are struggling with yellow tones in your complexion, then it is best to use a lavender or lilac color corrector, which will work to neutralize yellow undertones that may have an unsightly effect on your appearance.

If you are using the powdered version, then you can easily apply this with a mineral makeup brush or a Kabuki brush and blend it well before you apply your foundation. It is also important to keep in mind that less is more, and it is helpful to start out with a lighter application to see how well it covers your skin concern.

Here is a list with the best color correction powders available on the market, amongst which you will find yellow, green, pink, as well as peach, lilac or combinations of these shades:

Clinique’s Redness Solutions Instant Relief powder is one of the most popular powders for redness out there and it has been around for decades. What many don’t know is that comes from a whole line dedicated to the skin issue and claims not only to hide redness, blotches and rosacea, but also to keep the problems at bay and calm the skin.

This product also gives the skin an even, matte look, without settling into pores. T LeClerc CC Powder

T LeClerc CC Powder

T. LeClerc Loose Powder – Banane | Tilleul

T. LeClerc Banane powder is a cult favorite for as long as I can remember and has kept its popularity as one of the best powders adressed to redness on the market. It doesn’t clog pores and melts into moisturized skin almost immediately. The yellow tint doesn’t allow dark skin to look washed out and it tones down redness instantly, so it’s great whether you have pale, sensitive skin, as well as a dark skin tone.

The ingredients are basic and targeted, as the product contains only talc, rice powder – the best kind – as it is finely milled and catches the light, providing an even and natural complexion -and fragrance. It’s soft, pale yellow shade reflects light in a flattering way, illuminating fair to medium European complexions with pink undertones. It bestows an enviable glow and lightens up the skin with one sweep, masking any imperfections, including dark circles.

Also targeted towards redness is the mint green shade # Tilleul, which disguises flushing and veins on pale to fair complexions. This is more appropriate if your skin looks more red than pink.

It corrects with mauve and pink to keep skin from looking dull, with beige and apricot beige to add warmth and white and white gold to reflect light. On skin, it has a champagne-lilac illuminating base with sparkles of gold and champagne, that looks subtle against skin, even when used all-over.

Can you use a corrective powder alone?
  • Yes, you can use a corrective powder alone. Corrective powders are designed to help even out skin tone, conceal blemishes, and create a smooth, flawless finish. They are typically lightweight and can be used on their own or as a base before applying foundation or other makeup products. However, if you have more significant skin concerns or prefer fuller coverage, you may want to consider using additional products such as foundation or concealer in combination with the corrective powder.
